LEGISLATION - England (18 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It covers the knowledge needed to raise awareness of the importance and relevance of the legal framework to practice within all units Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care; to understand the mechanisms and process of an act; to develop ways of working with and using the legal framework to inform your practice; how to help develop confidence in decision making and safe practice.

Level 3 Group M Mandatory Units

SHC 31 - Promote communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (20 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the central importance of communication in such settings, and ways to overcome barriers to meet individual needs and preferences in communication.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the concepts of personal development and reflective practice which are fundamental to such roles, and ways to implement these.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion which are fundamental to such roles.

SHC 34 - Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (11 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those who are newly commencing or plan to work in health or social care settings with adults or children. It introduces ways to address the dilemmas, conflicts or complaints that may arise where there is a duty of care.

HSC 024 - Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care (20 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. This unit introduces the important area of safeguarding individuals from abuse. It identifies different types of abuse and the signs and symptoms that might indicate abuse is occurring. It considers when individuals might be particularly vulnerable to abuse and what a learner must do if abuse is suspected or alleged.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to understand the nature of working relationships, work in ways that are agreed with the employer and work in partnership with others.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to implement and promote person centred approaches.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to promote and implement health and safety in their work setting.

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It covers the knowledge and skills needed to implement and promote good practice in recording, sharing, storing and accessing information.

DEM 305 - Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach (15 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is about knowledge and understanding of individuals who may have specific needs for receiving medication because of their experience of dementia. Learners will develop their knowledge of these medication requirements. This unit does not confirm competence.

DEM 308 - Understand the role of communication and interactions with individuals who have dementia (40 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit provides the underpinning knowledge required to develop therapeutic relationships with individuals with dementia based on positive interaction and communication. It does not assess competence.

IC02 - Causes and spread of infection (19 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is to enable the learner to understand the causes of infection and common illnesses that may result as a consequence. To understand the difference between both infection and colonisation and pathogenic and non pathogenic organisms, the areas of infection and the types caused by different organisms. In addition the learner will understand the methods of transmission, the conditions needed for organisms to grow, the ways infection enter the body and key factors that may lead to infection occurring.

ASM 34 - Administer medication to individuals and monitor the effects (26 pages)

Unit purpose and aim - This unit is for those who prepare for, administer and monitor the effects of medication on individuals. The unit applies to all medication used for and by individuals, both prescribed and nonprescribed.
